In Mariupol was commissioned step-up pump station “Zapadniy-1”. PJSC “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol” an affiliate of Metinvest Group invested 1 million 300 thousand UAH to the social significant project – recovering of failure-free water supply to the houses situated in the 60 years of USSR street, Uritskogo street, Solnechnaya street, and Shevchenko avenue. Financing was realized by the Works within the framework of the quadripartite agreement program implementation concerning social partnership of Metinvest Group, metallurgical enterprises with City Council.
Micro district Zapadniy is situated on the hill. Capacity of the old pumps was insufficient to supply water to the upper floors of the houses. More than 15 thousand inhabitants felt uncomfortable during decades. There were continuous problems with water supply in the apartments of multistory houses. Actual water pressure at the inlet of the house system amounted to 2.5 atmospheres versus required value of 4.5 – 4.8 atmospheres.
Only construction of a new pump station was able to solve this problem cardinally. In 2008 started construction of a new building, and external water supply networks laying. But because of the financial problems the project was frozen. Neither City Organization for Water Supply nor city treasury had necessary financial resources.

General Director of PJSC “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol” Yuriy Zinchenko highlighted that improving of the cities, where the company is present, development of their economy and infrastructure are one of the priorities of social policy of Metinvest Group.
“Actually, one year ago, at the very beginning of my direction activity at the Works - emphasized Yuriy Zinchenko, I have participated in the discussion of the program of social-economic development of Mariupol within the framework of quadripartite agreement concerning social partnership between Mariupol City Council, Metinvest Group, PJSC “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol” and PJSC “Azovsteel”. According to this agreement PJSC “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol” assumed responsibility for realization of several city social projects including termination of construction of “Zapadnaiy-1” pump station. It was necessary to achieve the priority goal for 24 hours water supply for inhabitants of this micro district. We will bindingly tackle this problem, because drinkable water is basic for comfortable living conditions of our citizens. Due to our common efforts we achieved liquidation of this “bottle neck”. It is very important for us, that we managed to make the life of 15 thousand of citizens of Mariupol, living in this micro district, more comfortable.
It must be pointed out that this year is very chanceful for such pleasant events for PJSC “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol”. Metallurgists assumed the responsibility of financing of projects that were stopped because of the lack of budgetary funds. They set the priorities and on the first place was medicine, development of communal infrastructure, special-purpose help to socially unprotected categories, disabled, children, projects of the cultural development. To say in general terms, to the most important issues of our city life.
With the help of PJSC “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol” staff the reconstruction of pumping station has been carried out, engineering services have been built, technical equipment has been purchased and installed, and the building of the station has been repaired. The best specialists from the Repair and Improvement Shop of PJSC “Ilyich Iron and Steel Works” who took part in the realization of the project were awarded with certificates of honor and money certificates.
The inhabitants of micro district “Zapadniy” don’t hide their joy and emphasize that without the help of metallurgists the water wouldn’t have appeared in their houses so soon.
Grigoriy Turovich, the citizen of micro district “Zapadniy”: “I live in this house for more than 30 years and we always had this kind of problems. It was practically impossible to take a shower. There was only hot water or there wasn’t water at all. For many years we had a serious problem with cold water, and now everything will come right.
“In these solemn conditions we start up this object providing a normal water supply to the houses of 15 thousand of Mariupol citizens, to the schools, to the day-care centers. Due to join efforts of metallurgists and the city normal conditions for the people life have been created. Moreover there is a perspective of further improving of water supply in our city. Thanks to everybody who has taken part in these activities. Special gratitude to Yuriy Zinchenko for the initiative taken in due time and for joint resolution of this problem of a very high importance for our city” – thanked at the solemn inauguration of the step-up pump station “Zapadniy-1” Yuriy Hotlubey the head of Mariupol city.
