All production activity of the Works since the period of creation until nowadays has been going hand in hand with existing equipment upgrading, new up-to-date production facilities introduction and technological process improvement with the purpose of providing constantly growing requirements to products and units production increase.
Priority lines of technical re-equipment are as follows:
- energy and resource saving;
- quality increase and product mix diversification;
- production growth;
- environmental protection.
Specific programs are developed and successfully realized for each of the lines.
Since 2013 PJSC “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works” has been realizing an innovation project on “Lean Manufacture” program implementation, the purpose of which is minimization of all types of losses in production, striving for achieving high results in the plant operation.
Base “Lean Manufacture” tools are being implemented stage by stage in structural departments of “Ilyich Iron and Steel” within the framework of the program realization, such as “5S” (rational workplace creation), visual management, daily control, efficient informing, TPM (total productive maintenance), SMED (fast equipment changeover), KPI (key performance indicators), SPP (system of proposal submission), KNS (continuous improvement commands), SOP (standard operating procedures).
“Lean Manufacture” tools realization at the plant gives actual results in production volume growth, reduction of expenses for energy resources, production cost reduction, working conditions improvement. Each employee’s involvement into the continuous improvement process benefits company’s transfer to a higher qualitative level, allowing to successfully compete at international metal products market.
Projects
Sinter plant reconstruction investment project, the largest one in the history of independent Ukraine, has started at “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works”. New dust and gas cleaning equipment will be installed behind sintering machines at the first stage. Metinvest Group signed a contract with an Italian company Termokimik Corporation, a leading manufacturer of equipment for industrial enterprises in the field of environment protection, for base engineering within the frameworks of upgrading sinter plant of PJSC “Ilyich Iron & Steel Works”.
Total investments into the project will amount about $220 mln. With realization of the sinter plant reconstruction the company will achieve international environmental standards on dust and sulfur oxide emissions.
